Hi! My name is Atul. I am a Postdoctoral research scholar at the NCState. Welcome to my website!
Prior to NCState, I was at RIT and work with Prof. Richard O'Shaughnessy. I got my PhD studying Relativistic Matter in Neutron Star Mergers and Big Bang Nucleosynthesis ( link to dissertation) with Prof. Grant Mathews at the University of Notre Dame. I completed my undergraduate studies at the IIT Bombay.
My research interests are in nucleosynthesis, multi-messenger astrophysics, gravitational wave studies for neutrons star mergers, the nuclear equation of state and nuclear astrophysics. At RIT, I am working on modelling the postmerger ejecta with a combination of results from numerical relativity based simulations and analytical solutions, and on generating surrogate light curve models for kilonovae resulting from binary neutron star mergers. Additionally, I am a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration and am working on parameteric equation of state representations for the upcoming fourth observing run.
During my graduate studies I worked on the neutron rich environments in astrophysics and cosmology. I built numerical relativity based simulations (with the Einstein Toolkit) of the spectacular event of binary neutron star mergers and worked on finding features in the gravitational wave that would indicate the occurance of a crossover to quark matter in the core. I also researched on the thermalization of nuclei in Big bang nucleosynthesis by analytic methods and simulations by developing a multi-dimension multi-specie special-relativistic thermalization code which can track the distribution of energy in these plasmas. During the undergraduate studies I conducted research on cosmology by finding a scale to cosmic homogeneity.
